The first week of August is over and the month is in full swing. I've been busy planning (and writing) new articles for y'all as well as updating some older content. (Because things feel a bit like that abandoned InGen compound.) When I say older, I mean these posts are approximately two years old. They've actually each taken longer than I expected to fix (approximately 1-2 hours including all of the distractions), but it's been worth it. I've only revamped a few, but this is a project I'm going to see through. It's a huge project but it'll give me a chance to help focus the blog content more (as the topics are a bit all over the place considering the new direction I'm taking). Plus, I like putting my best foot forward, and my best foot two years ago is not my best foot now, which is natural. There are simply some articles I won't share because I know the quality isn't where I want it. I'll keep you informed as I continue with this project. If there is anything you'd like to see updated, please feel free to shoot me an email or tell me on twitter, or even let me know if there are some new topics you'd like to see me cover.
The Jurassic Park read-along has begun and I am enjoying my second time diving into the novel. Speaking of dinosaurs, The Dinosaur Lords released a couple of weeks ago and I was finally able to pick it up from my local library. This is excellent for several reasons. One: the novel sounds amazing and has a wicked cover. Two: I am the first person to read this copy. It was still on order when I placed a hold on it and I was the first person. You know what that means right? No worries about it being a gross library book. You all know what I mean. Anyone who has borrowed from a library knows.
While we're on the topic of new books, let me show you a couple of novels I've recently acquired. The Scorpion Rules is actually set to be released on September 22nd, so big thanks to Simon and Schuster for letting me read an early copy and to NetGalley for making it possible! I also had the pleasure of reading Snap! by Hazel Hutchins and Dusan Petricic. Sometimes I see a cute picture book and can't help but request it.
Snap! will be most enjoyed by two and three-year-olds, and has the added benefit of helping kids learn their colors. I wasn't blown away by the illustrations but I do think they're great for the intended audience. Honestly, with the exception of the little boy and the crayons, much of the illustrations mimic a child's art to a T, which is often appealing to children. The narrative is a bit too instructional for my tastes and not quite as fun as I hoped, but I'm sure Snap! will be appreciated by preschool teachers.
Aside from books and stuff here on the blog, I've been actively reading some of the blogs in my Bloglovin' feed. A few favorites include:
- You Shouldn't Trust Blogger Stats - Use Google Analytics via Nellie & Co. - This isn't news for me but it's certainly good for newer bloggers to know. Plus, Amanda goes into some of the features offered by Google Analytics.
- Reasons It’s Appropriate To Take A Book Wherever You Go via Paper Fury - True at times but a lot of fun all around for book lovers.
- Blogging Oops. via My Friends are Fiction - Kristen reminds us all why we shouldn't wait to write reviews. I admit that I've made this mistake more than once.
- Lessons Learned from a 3 Year Blogger via Nose Graze - It's easy to lose direction, don't.
- How to Come Up with 60 Original Blog Post Ideas in 30 Minutes via Elle & Co. - I've actually tried this and it does work. It really makes you think and dig deeper for topics.
Have you seen any interesting articles lately and are you enjoying the Jurassic Park read-along?
