Debut Fantasy Authors Strike 2016

It's that time of year; 2016 debut authors are starting their marketing spree. The chats are hitting our twitter feeds and the rest of the covers are being revealed. We've got an interesting line up and there are four in particular that have caught my eye: Ever the Hunted, Rebel in the Sands, Assassin's Heart, Blackhearts. Unfortunately, Ever the Hunted doesn't have a cover yet.Assassins seem to be a growing trend among the YA genre. I'm not sure whether or not this is good or bad but I'll be interested to see how it turns out. You can see more of the 2016 fantasy and science fiction line up at My Friends are Fiction.

The new Batman vs. Superman trailer and Suicide Squad trailers were recently released and I finally got around to watching them. I admit I've been unenthusiastic about Batman vs. Superman since the teaser trailer and I've been skeptical of the Suicide Squad since I saw how Joker is supposed to look; my disappoint with their the new trailers wasn't a surprise. However, we are set to get another Mockingjay Part 2 trailer in about five days. At this point, I just want to see how they end it with the films. I'm sure I'll be more excited when it's closer to November but, for now, I'm feeling kind of meh about it. I liked The Hunger Games series as much as the next person, but they didn't need to drag the film series out another year.

I other news, I've acquired a few new books that I'm excited about. Dark Disciple by Christie Golden (narrated by Marc Thompson) recently caught my eye so, of course, I picked it up using my audible credit. I listened to maybe the first fifteen minutes of it the other day and am super impressed with the set up and narration so far. Hopefully the rest of the novel is just as enjoyable.

Mary Pearson's The Heart of Betrayal sequel to The Kiss of Deception (which I actually had a read-along for) was released on July 7th and I bought it the second I saw it at my local B&N. I'll be having a read-along for The Heart of Betrayal as well so stay tuned for details about that.

A friend convinced me to buy my first Brandon Sanderson novel, The Emperor's Soul. She practically sold me the book herself. I'm not sure when I'll be getting to it, but I am definitely excited to dig in.

This then begs the question: what am I reading now? I'll admit I've been in a bit of a funk and actually ended up reading some guilty pleasure novels (of which we shall not speak). I am in the midst of reading Star Wars: Dynasty of Evil (a Darth Bane novel) and I'm slowly plugging away at The Silver Witch when I get the chance.

Unfortunately, I've only come across a single article I've found worth sharing with y'all. Author Christie Golden, gave us a look at what she did to prepare herself to write Dark Disciple and it's really interesting.

What have you been up to?

  1. I'm pretty uninterested in Batman vs Superman too. I LOVE BATMAN....but, erm, I love Christopher Nolan's version and I'm really not interested in a reboot, sadly. (Plus, pfft, it's DC. I AM A MARVEL GIRL.) XDXD Ahhh I'm so so excited for so many 2016 releases already! But I'm going to check out Kristen's post after this so I can add more and have my Goodreads just groan at me. Awk! And I haven't popped by for a while and your DESIGN IS BEAUTIFUL. JUST BEAUTIFUL.

    1. With the exception of Batman, I was raised to be a Marvel fan myself. I don't want a reboot either. Christian Bale will always be Batman/Bruce Wayne. I'll admit I've stopped checking for new releases in order to keep my TBR list down... that's terrible, I know. Aw, thanks! I love my new design too! Lisseth did an amazing job!
