3 Classics to Tackle this Summer

Two weeks ago, I published a list of novels to try this summer; however, I hope y'all will be reading more than just five. There are some great classics out there and while I wouldn't necessarily suggest you read them all this summer if you don't want to, I would suggest your pick up one or two... or three.

I see myself turning into a great champion of Beowulf someday. It's already a favorite and has inspired a creative endeavor of my own. Nearly everyone has probably heard of Grendel and Beowulf, but few think of the tale beyond that. If you haven't already, now is a great time to take a day or two to read the rest of the story.

I have yet to finish The Iliad myself, but every summer I find myself plugging away at it more than I do the rest of the year. Perhaps if I had more time, I would make a serious effort but I'm still in school so I don't. However, I have made some progress and am enjoying what I've read thus far.

I've read The Hobbit more than once and it wouldn't be right to leave both this and The Lord of the Rings off the list. It's probably one of the faster paced classics I've had the pleasure of reading, so if you're just looking to cross things off that list of classics everyone wants to say they've read, then this is the perfect novel to start with. You may even like it.

What classics will you reading this summer?

  1. I should kick myself for not having read The Hobbit yet. I'll have to get on that(hopefully) this summer!
