Naturally, I simply knew I had to watch it all from the very beginning. I never understood why'd you want to watch something in which someone spoke so fast that you could hardly understand them. I now know the answer to that.
Thoughts for Episode 1
Sherlock in two words? Absolutely brilliant. We begin the episode with Dr. Watson, who has just recently returned home from war. Dr. Watson is... stiff when we first meet him. Then enter scene, Sherlock beating *cough* sorry, examining a corpse. Of course, that's not the first taste we get of him, no, our first taste is him texting everyone in a police brief telling them that the police are wrong.
It's amazing how the whole breadth of their characters are captured in those first scenes. Sherlock has a huge personality. He's smarter than just about everyone else and loves to solve difficult puzzles. I especially love watching him interact (or should I say not interact?) with Anderson. My favorite line thus far?
"Anderson, don't talk out loud. You lower the IQ of the whole street." #Sherlock

Dr. Watson's loyalty is refreshing and something that I really appreciate. He seems to have a good sense about people and knew almost instantly that Sherlock, despite his flaws, was a good person and someone he could trust.
Lestrade seems to be a good enough person but a bit of a push over. Sherlock pushes just about anyone out of his way but even Donovan can make him do what she wants half of the time. We'll see what happens but I don't expect this to change.
Of course, none of this would be complete without Mrs. Hudson and the music. She has just the right amount of feisty old lady in her and I love the small little comments she makes on the side. The script and acting are superb and the music is the perfect balance of serious and playful that adds an extra spice to the show.
In short...
I loved it. I've completely fallen in love with Sherlock and was laughing throughout the episode. The acting, script, and music are all amazing and I'm looking forward to watching more.
City of Heavenly Fire is seriously massive. I have a copy of it but I've been putting off actually reading it because I know it's going to take me at least a week to get through. O.o
ReplyDeleteSherlock is SO GREAT. Up until late last year, I was kinda like you. I'd heard amazing things about it . . . but I never really intentionally decided to seek it out for some reason. I don't know why. I just don't think I expected it to be very good, you know? (I am now addicted to the show and am going through serious withdrawals. Two more years until season four? Whhyyyyyy??)
I hope you enjoy the rest of the series! :)
It is HUGE but so worth the time!
DeleteI couldn't understand what they were all saying at first so that put my off the show for a little while. Two years until season four!? Are they trying to kill us?
I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS SERIES!!! I can't wait until you get up to season 3 episode 3! It's a mind blower!!!!!!! Well, they all are. The series just keeps getting better and better, plus, I really love how all the episodes are movie-length. Loved reading your thoughts, and will be on the look out for more as they come :)
ReplyDeleteSherlock's episode lengths and I have a love/hate relationship. I'm glad they're so long but I have to be willing to commit 1.5 hours every time I sit down.
DeleteOmg I'm a new devoted fan of Sherlock too! In fact, I just watched all three seasons - within like a month - lol. I am DYINGG for season 4!!! Why do I have to wait until 2016... No fair lol. My friend was like, "yeah that's what the rest of us have been doing since 2010" >.<
ReplyDeleteI look forward to fangirling with you about Sherlock! (I have some issues with the S3...)
2016!? That's crazy!!! Issues huh? Interesting...
DeleteOMG YES! I JUST STARTED THIS YESTERDAY AND I SO AGREE. Me and Melanie watched it at the same time so it was like really cool. I'm super excited to continue with the series!
