Meghan Chase has a secret destiny; one she could never have imagined.
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil, no faery creature dare face; and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

I wanted to like this more than I did, honestly though, I had a really hard time investing myself into this story.
The pacing was pretty even but I wouldn't say this is a quick read at all. Many of the characters were just so-so. Puck was my favorite and he was absent for most of the novel. There didn't seem to be anything special about Meghan as a narrator. I liked her well enough but I didn't fall in love with her character. Prince Ash can be a bit hot and cold but I did end up liking him (not that I thought that'd be a problem).
The world building is well-done. This is actually the first novel I've read with fae at the heart of its plot and I'll try just about anything once, but I'm not sure if I'm a fan.
I'm glad I finally checked things out here but I'm not seeing what's so special. The plot and world are thought-out and good, this just isn't my cup of tea. There isn't as much romance in this novel and, honestly, I'm a hopeless romantic so sometimes I get bored with everything else and just want to get to the swoony parts. I know, I'm terrible.
I admit the first book wasn't the greatest, but as you go on it gets better and better. This is one of my favorite series ever! The Iron Queen is my favorite one.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I can't wait to see what you think of The Iron Daughter.
I did like the second one more than the first, so I'm hoping the third book will improve upon the second. Thanks for reading and commenting!
DeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one late on reading this series. I own most of the series but I haven't taken the time to dive in yet. I guess I had better at least give the first book a chance like you did.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great review!
It's definitely worth a shot. I can see why other people would love it. Thanks for reading and commenting!
