True love is shrouded in secrets and lies in the #1 New York Times bestselling second book of the Infernal Devices trilogy. In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when it becomes clear that the mysterious Magister will stop at nothing to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.

With the help of the handsome, tortured Will and the devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal and fueled by revenge. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa is drawn more and more to Jem, though her longing for Will continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa answers about who she really is? As their search leads to deadly peril, Tessa learns that secrets and lies can corrupt even the purest heart.

It's been quite some time since I read this novel but I can still firmly say that it's better then Clockwork Angel.

At this point in time, Will has been a total jerk to Tessa and she tolerates him. But Will has a dark secret - a curse he's desperate to rid himself of - and the only one who can help him is Magnus Bane. Meanwhile, Jem slips right into the picture and makes us fall in love with him. Unfortunately, Jem's time seems be growing shorter and shorter and the Magister knows exactly where to hit our beloved characters where it'll hurt the most.

Sophie and the two Lightwood brothers become more prominent characters and, yes, the Lightwood boys become (one slower than the other) more likable. Henry and Charlotte are just the cutest couple out there. How can one not like them? We finally get to learn more about Will's past, which was a relief because I really just wanted to know.

As for Jessamine.... Ah, that girl. She is a mess.

All in all, I loved this book. It made me love Jem. Where Clockwork Angel gave me an interesting and enjoyable story, Clockwork Prince delivered the fangirling love I had hoped for in the first novel.

  1. Ah, I love this series. It has such a great love triangle and all the minor characters are really interesting to read about too.

This book gave me all the feels for Will, the poor guy.

  2. Will was such a jerk to Tessa in Clockwork Angel I could hardly imagine he could redeem himself to me, but in Clockwork Prince we finally get to know his reason (and it was a damn good reason!) and I really liked him from then on. This series really has one of the best love triangles ever, I loved both Will and Jem! This is definitely on of my favorite series, I'm glad you liked it!

    1. It was a pretty good reason. Jem totally stole my heart and I didn't even think he would!

  3. I didn't really like CP that much because it was really filler-ish to me. Book one introduced and developed and book three was the epic battle. Book two just made us fall in love with jem, but I wasn't really invested in it as much as the others.

    Great review Steph! <33

  4. I agree with this. Book one was okay but book two totally stole my heart. It was so much deeper and gave us more story and tons more feels. The whole thing with Will and Jem....probably one of the best love triangles ever. It's so hard to pick a side! I haven't read book three but I've heard it's amazing.
